The National Consortium for Collection, Recovery and Recycling of Plastics Packaging Waste was established in 1997 following Ronchi Decree no. 22/97.
Former Replastic activities have been taken over. COREPLA is responsible for the management and financing of collection, sorting, energy recovery and recycling of plastics packaging waste (household – trade and industries). To date there are 70 collection centres, 35 sorting plants mainly for post-consume plastics waste and more than 70 multimaterial selection plants. Total employees involved in this activity are more than 2000 units.
The financial resources required for collection, recovery and recycling of plastics packaging are provided by the Environmental contribution through the National Conai (Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi) scheme.
In 2004 the separate collection has reached the 90% of Italian population, about 50 millions people and it is in place in more than 7000 municipalities.
COREPLA shareholders are currently more than 2000 representing about the 90% of the total business actors.
