CleanFARMS is a not-for-profit industry stewardship organization committed to environmental responsibility through the proper management of agricultural waste.

The agricultural sector in Canada is built on innovation and world-class stewardship practices. CleanFARMS supports this $70 billion dollar sector by providing cost effective and sustainable stewardship programming.

Our primary focus is on programming for pesticide and fertilizer products:

  • Pesticide and fertilizer container recycling
    • Plastic pesticide and fertilizer containers are collected from over 1,000 collection sites across the country. The majority of the plastic is washed, shredded and eventually recycling into farm drainage tile.
    • Over 100 million pesticide and fertilizer containers have been collected since 1989.
  • Obsolete pesticide collection and disposal
  •  This program operates in each Canadian province once every three years. Unwanted and obsolete pesticides are collected and safely disposed of through high temperature incineration.
  • millions of kilograms of obsolete pesticides have been collected since 1998.
  • ‚Äč Pesticide bag collection and disposal
    • This program operates in the Canadian Maritimes and empty pesticide bags are safely disposed of at a waste to energy facility.
    • Over 200,000 paper bags have been collected since 2006.

Farming in Canada is evolving and CleanFARMS is developing programs to manage additional agricultural plastics like seed bags, ag-film, twine, grain bags, bale and silage wrap. With strong support from Canadian farmers, governments, and industry we are on our way to becoming a one-stop shop for agricultural waste. http://www.cleanfarms.ca/
